FOP LEGAL COVERAGE

The Fraternal Order of Police in Utah offers access to two legal plans.  The cost for both is currently the same, however the benefits are different.  Local lodges can choose, based on the wishes of their members, which plan to affiliate with.

 The first plan is one that is hosted by the Utah State Lodge.  We have contracted with Mumford Rawson, LLC for all of the legal needs under this plan. This plan includes an off duty criminal benefit (except in cases of corruption), unlimited adminstrative coverage, and local lodge support on legal matters.   Select the Utah FOP Plan tab for more information on this plan.

 The second plan is the National Legal Defense Plan, by Hylant Group.  Under this plan, members choose from plan attorneys from throughout the state. For more information go to the Hylant tab for information and a link to Hylant.

The Utah FOP Plan is the only plan that provides on duty AND off duty coverage.  Our belief is that you can't keep your job in an administrative hearing if you lose the criminal side.  We also control our own costs.  
The Hylant Plan gives the choice of several different attorneys.  It is also an FOP run program, except the costs are controled by a national board, not local.  
PLEA is not an FOP run plan.  It is a cheaper plan, but you are also restricted to a PLEA attorney with no off duty coverage.

Download the app "US Cop".  It does cost a little money ($3.99), but is one of the best applications for training, legal advise, reference, and job related information.  The Utah State FOP is not affiliated with the production or sale of this app.  Several board members and lodge presidents have purchased this app, found it extremely useful and recommend it.
